GO’s Computer School

Since 1995, through GO’s job training classes, over…

have been trained for better jobs!

GO’s Youth Learning Centre was one of the first computer schools in Corriverton and continues to serve students and the community at large.

The original computer lab was equipped with 25 desktop computers. GO offers the following courses:

  • Introduction to Computer
  • Computerized Typing
  • Microsoft Word I, II, III
  • Microsoft Windows
  • MS Excel I, II
  • MS Power Point
  • MS Access I, II
  • The Internet

We would like to replace these desktops with laptops and tablets. Contact us if you are able to help! 

GO”s training reaches the elderly, the middle aged, young people, secondary school students, and members of the surrounding communities. GO’s curriculum is designed in a very simple manner and has been improved by the Guyana’s Ministry of Education. It allows even those that have not had a Secondary Education to be able to learn more. GO takes anyone that is willing to learn.

Through our computer classes, over 2,000 people have been trained for better jobs since 1995. Many of them are working in government offices, the sugar estates, banks, and businesses. A few of those persons are teaching others in the community. Almost every business in Corriverton has employees that attended our computer school! Our program has been able to touch the lives of our students and the community in a uniquely positive way.

Computer Repair Classes

In the Summer of 2024, we expanded our job training by offering cell phone repair classes. We teach high school students information technology (IT) and practical hand-on job skills. Our initial first three classes are:

  • Introductory Computer Repairs
  • Cell Phone Repairs
  • Web Page Design

Our graduates are eager to learn practical IT job skills. It makes them immediately employable. Some are even thinking of starting their own businesses.

Quality job-skills training is directly  related to the skill-set of our teachers. To this end, we developed and launched our IT Internship Program.

Our first intern is Nate, the son of one of our longstanding supporters, Clair Persaud of Minneapolis. Nate was in  Guyana for a month to co-teach our IT classes and advance training of our local staff. Nate is attending the University of Minnesota to study Computer Science. He is experienced in computer hardware and software, and building and repairing cell phones, computers, and laptops.

Victor Salazar, one of our previous missionaries, also co-taught the class and is similarly skilled with degrees in computer repair for hardware and software, and web page from the Institute of Technology and Training of Guatemala.
